Tierra Projects can make beautiful and productive raised garden beds customised to your space using materials such as stone, brick steel and timber or you can choose one of our cypress pine timber garden beds.
The team at Tierra Projects will take care of your garden making it neat and tidy, functional, thriving and productive.
While it’s perfectly fine to cultivate your vegetables directly in the ground and there are some plants that are better suited to this, there are many benefits to having a raised garden bed.
Better accessibility:
Since the soil level is raised about half a meter off the ground, raised garden beds provide much easier access and less back bending while tending to and harvesting your organic fruit and vegetables.
Better control of soil conditions:
Since you will be filling your raised garden bed with soil you have an opportunity to set up your garden beds with the ideal soil mix, with good structure and packed full of nutrients and trace minerals. This is particularly helpful in situations where there is heavy metal contamination or other types of contamination in the ground.
Reclaim hard surfaces:
Raised garden beds can simply be constructed directly over concrete or other hard paving surfaces without having to demolish them first. This can be a great way to reclaim more garden space in a suburban setting, particularly if a hard surface has a great sunny aspect perfect for growing veggies.
Visually appealing:
There’s something special about a nice Timber or brick raised garden bed that can really elevate the landscaping in your backyard.
Opportunity to add wicking:
One of the best advantages of raised garden beds is the opportunity to turn them into Wicking beds or self-watering garden beds.
A wicking garden bed has a fully contained water reservoir underneath the soil layer. From this reservoir the water can travel upwards or ‘wick’ through the process of capillary action into the soil above.
There are many benefits to wicking beds including:
• The soil is kept at an optimal moisture level for growing plants without drying out or getting waterlogged.
• Watering time is greatly reduced so you can spend your time in the garden doing more valuable things.
• Water is conserved as water is not lost to the water table or through evaporation.
• Your plants will just straight up love it.
We exclusively use Water Ups wicking cells inside our garden beds. Water ups has developed an amazing effective product that can hold the maximum amount of water and effectively irrigate your garden bed to produce thriving organic fruits and vegetables.
We can custom build garden beds from various materials but the most common type we make is form Timber. We prefer to work with Cypress pine as it is a native conifer that is naturally Termite and rot resistant. Unlike the most commonly used treated pine sleepers that are infused with Copper, Chromium and Arsenic.
Note: this pricing is for garden beds that are 600mm high (650mm with capping).
